Diorama International Film Festival to be held in Delhi for the first time; big boost to budding filmmakers


With an aim of providing an impetus to filmmaking in Delhi and to promote appreciation of cinematic art, the Diorama International Film Festival will be held in the city for the first time from January 14 th -20 th at the Siri fort auditorium. This seven-day extravaganza organized by Manoj Srivastava, who headed the International Film Festival of India, Goa Government as the Chief Executive Officer and Entertainment Society of Goa till 2012, will combine a never before exposure of multi genre world cinema with real quality entertainment and business of cinema.

A confluence of the Hollywood and Bollywood film fraternity; 130 films from over 50 countries to be screened. The festival will witness a participation of national and internationally renowned actors and directors. The festival will screen as many as 130 films from over 50 countries. It will also hold conferences, master classes, workshops and film bazaar, where cinema business will be transacted and over 20 countries are represented in the activity. Sparrow Awards decided by International film juries The festival will also give out Sparrow awards, named after the endangered bird, for the best work over 25 film categories and they will be decided by four international film juries comprising of famous actors, directors, producers amongst others.

The juries at the film festival will be headed by eminent film personalities such as Iranian film director Darish Mehrjui, who was a founder of the Iranian New Wave movement in the 1970’s and widely known for his film GAV(1969), British film producer/director Nikk Powell known for his movies The Crying game, Brimstone and Siesta, and film directors Rahul Rawail and Dipak Tijori.

Other veteran personalities who will head the juries at the festival are Rafael Kapelinski (Poland), who won the Silver Bear in Berlin last year, Philip Cheah, film critic and editor of publication Big O, Singapore, actress Divya Dutta, renowned cinematographer Sanjay F Gupta, Indian playback singer Alka Yagnik and Shobana many more.




The event is supported by the Film Federation of India, the apex body of film makers in India and non-governmental organisation Indian Film Institute which is also founded by Diorama director Manoj Srivastava.

Talking about the festival, Srivastava, who has an experience of handling over 140 film festivals, said, “Delhi will see something like this for the first time. It is a congregation of eminent film makers after a long long time. After heading the International Film Festival of India in Goa for five years, I thought even Delhi needed a film festival of its own. The festival will be a boost to all film aspirants and enthusiasts and will help them in creating a niche of their own in the city”
