Why this subject matter for your film?
It’s About choices is a film based on moral choices disguised in an action thriller genre package. David talks about the realities of facing them. In the end, our lives are a sum total of all the small and big choices that we have made.
Interesting Fact : The whole film was shot in 12 hrs, two shifts of 6 hrs each.
Where did you find this story for this film?
This story was written with reverse engineering in mind, what would be the easiest way to cut costs of production? I admit it the most restrictive way to write, it did not work, it still costed a bomb.
What were the challenges you faced in making the film?
HUMANS!! The challenges I faced in making this film were humans!
Hugo Weaving in the Matrix said these lines to Neo “ Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area’’.
Humans (Not Everyone Obviously) cheat, misrepresent, lie, underdeliver, have massive egos, overestimate their worth and skill. They do this to everyone they encounter consistently. I faced that challenge.
The only technical challenge I faced was a loose bolt on the front close up camera.
Did you face any problems in releasing the film?
The business of entertainment is even to this date is a disorganized sector but having said that, a massive stimulus of young and forward-thinking energy has resulted in an explosion of technological innovation in releasing independent films.
It started off as an impossible task for me since I have no godfather. But, 10x10^9 Google searches later I was able to release the film on OTT platforms. Young entrepreneurs who I am grateful to for having the courage, determination, and resilience to make a platform come to life.
What was your background before making your first film?
I have been running a recording studio Radical Concepts Studio since 2013.Music production for ads and Film, Voiceovers, Editing over 300 short films Post-production for feature films.
How do you think filmmakers like you can overcome common challenges like finance and distribution?
In my experience, DIY (DO IT YOUR SELF ). The best way to deal with finance is to reduce dependency as much as humanly possible. It will reduce the currency cost but it will cost you in energy and time. There are several options for finance but every single option comes with a cost and benefit ratio. This crucial calculation will guide your path forward.
Regarding distribution, I would like to share with you one major experience which is, you have to build your audience, if you have an audience, distribution will come to you. Now with OTT, it is like God sent an angel to destroy traditional means for content consumption, there are plenty of platforms for distribution and could use more.
